beautiful blonde lucy (barrymore) is a precocious 15-year-old with a big-city life. she is the’son’ of u.s. senator max fisher (scott glenn, tv series the west wing). max has a controlling wife (watkins) and three children. max’s sexy fiancée, terri (kozak), is his daughter’s age and too similar to lucy. the senate race is about to burst out of the can. bikers have to be dealt with, and the senator is starting to slip. the machinations of the politics and lust of the fishes (glenn and his wife) infuriate lucy. with a new/rehearsed tantrum, lucy storms off to new york, to a friend’s. the trip gets her within reach of a new hunk (alan alda) that no one has ever seen before. lucy is an attention-starved little girl, but she is not a cruel or wicked girl. she is just an observer of what is happening and how it plays out. her friends are good friends. they are shocked and grieved when lucy dies and her body is sent home. lucy is buried in the family plot. ten years later, lucy has become a young woman. terri is president of the black hat society, a club for teenagers like lucy. terri is now dating max. terri and the club members must recover the body of a girl who had gone missing under suspicious circumstances when she was in new york.
