the bradshaw’s continental railway guide 1913 was originally published in 1913 and was the inspiration behind michael portillo’s bbc television series ‘great continental railway journeys’. in the course of his series michael portillo appeared to be using the bradshaw’s continental railway guide 1913, however there are two small differences in this edition of the bradshaw’s guide; it differs in its structure, and it differs in the content. the original edition is in stapled, octavo format and has sections for each of the three countries, france, germany and switzerland. also, it has two maps, a railway map of europe and a town map of the uk. the british edition, in only a few years pasted into one section is only different in the content from the german and french editions. the british edition, unlike the german and french editions, is a guide not to france, but to britain. the original edition of the bradshaw’s guide was published in 1913 and is in stapled, octavo format. it has sections for each of the three countries, france, germany and switzerland.
