Some things work better than Photoshop, and others work less well. Lightroom is very well thought out, and was built with new features in mind. Also, if you are an experienced Photoshop user, you will find that working with Lightroom is much easier, perhaps because of the nature of its workflow. Photoshop is unforgiving, and Lightroom is much more forgiving.
I wish that Lightroom had a Retouch tool that would let you clone just a portion of an image—for example, the area you want to crop. With Photoshop, you can use the Clone Stamp tool, but that means dragging and dropping out every single section of the image while simultaneously entering a point that you want to place the image. That can be a huge time-sink if you have a lot of regions to retouch. You can also duplicate frames for a video project, but you can’t retouch just the part you want. And it doesn’t work with RGB images and movies. I’d love to be able to load region files for regions of the image or movie, so that I can retouch just a part of the image. There is a template of leftovers, but you can’t flip and rotate them to create a new image, and you can’t make a mask for them. All you can do is copy the region, paste it back into the original file. I’d love to see a tool that would let me copy a handful of frames, perhaps even regions of an image, perhaps even portions of a layer, and then sit back while Lightroom could do all of the work. Let me decide what the end product should be.
Now, that’s not to say Photoshop Camera is the perfect image editing software. And, frankly, it’s not expected. It’s simply a new, unique take on the best photography on a smartphone. And its entirely possible that this app will get enough love and feedback from you guys so that I can envision us iterating the product and making it even better.
