The easy answer is: No, casual sex itself is fine. The issue is when sex gets reduced to a consumable, as in the over-enamored hookup culture — one in which sex is simply an ingredient. And if you get emotionally attached, the whole thing gets thrown out the window and you probably won’t be seeing that person anymore. In this hookup culture, we’re used to being hooked up to everything: our phones, our tablets, our games. We’re used to being ready to jump out of bed and into whatever adventure we’re on. Hooking up is normal, we’ve all done it, and most of us don’t think twice about it. But when you’re casual, it’s a lot more fun if you can have your phone out of reach — at least for a while. But even if you can actually relax with your partner, you’re still always ready to hop on a plane and see where this goes. It’s fun because you never know what will happen.
