In telematics, telemonitoring and telematics-assisted transportation, we call such environments Vehicular Sensor Networks (VSNs) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. While mobile nodes are used mainly to communicate among themselves with one-way or multi-way intercommunications, fixed nodes are either used to communicate with a service provider or collect information from the environment for further processing.The sensors are mobile or fixed and their main function is to collect information from the environment, e.g. temperature, acceleration or pressure. Such information can then be passed to the network operator or directly to a user service without any intermediate usage of intermediate network nodes. This way the network is used for telematics and telemonitoring services.The architecture of telematics involves different technologies. For example, wireless sensor networks and mobile operator networks can be combined to deliver services in automotive applications (see Figure 1) [6]. Mercator projection is a mappign method mapping points on a sphere (the surface of a ball, to be exact) to the plane of a map, where the points become straight lines on the map. The idea of mappign a sphere to a plane with straight lines is based on a geometric approach that is used in trigonometry. It implies that latitude and longitude are the only geometrical variables needed to specify the position of any point on the globe.
Mercator projection is used for applications like the simple presentation of geographical objects, their analysis and modelling, for example in cartography [3,4]. By using it, we can simply and easily draw the globe in a planar way without the overhead of other projections. Due to its easiness to calculate
