I had no luck installing Windows 7 using VMWare Fusion and using bootcamp to install Win 7. I was just too tired to try that, and I didn’t want to waste another night going through all the results. I ended up downgrading back to Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I reinstalled using that version and it worked like a charm.
After upgrading to Win 10 with Media Creation Tool, I found that my Media Center on my TV was not working correctly. After a lot of searching on the Internet, I found a couple of forums that recommended using a USB 2.0 port to boot my Win 10 DVD. After doing that and using the DVD as my first installation, everything worked.
Now, my Media Center is working with Windows 10 Home again. But when Windows 10 updates itself, it has some issues. Some of the applications don’t work correctly. The Skype application freezes up when searching for contacts. I know that I can fix it by uninstalling and re-installing the app, but that would make a mess of the OS.
I finally got the upgrade to go and it looks like it’s going to be easy. I was able to install Windows 10 64 bit RC (build 10240). When it booted, it came up with the first screen where I needed to confirm that the device was booting from the DVD. As I had formatted the DVD as a Win10 64 bit installation media, I needed to format it again as a DVD for Windows 10. I did this using the command prompt (diskpart) in the Windows Recovery Environment. Once it was done, I went to the Win10 settings and selected the option to upgrade. When I came back to the Win 10 screen, I clicked upgrade and that’s when it was going to be a big issue. The upgrade failed because of an ongoing update to the Win 10 x64 platform. I tried to run the Windows 10 upgrade for another machine and it failed with the same error. So, I decided to give up and reinstall everything. I did not upgrade to the RC, I decided to just do a fresh install of Win 10. The new Win 10 install went just fine and it installed the touch screen drivers. Everything seems to be working fine now. One thing that I did notice is that there is no audio.
