Comments:In the official end-of-year report, a comprehensive set of data on the health and welfare of Australian workplaces and the health of people who work has been revealed. Results show many workers are not receiving sufficient sick leave, have poorer general health, and work longer hours for greater financial reward than they might want.
This is the first major Australian study to include the voices of those who work. Survey data indicates a ‘Work Ethic’ exists, but it is inadequate. Nearly every employee surveyed considered that they should work more hours per week than they did in order to be happy. Many also believe work should provide financial security.
With Australia’s meningitis epidemic spreading, a new study from the University of Adelaide has found the most common cause of meningitis is actually a benign disease known as “seroconversion”.
Study co-author, Professor Paul Watson said: “We are finding that the majority of cases of meningococcal disease are due to a conversion (an antibody to a different serogroup) rather than a new infection.
“Our experience of the outbreak suggests that if there are outbreaks in a school, the basis of these outbreaks is almost always inadequate vaccination coverage. That means herd immunity is broken and the chance of an outbreak occurs is increased dramatically.”
AOMR research officer, Dr Hamish Melvin, said: “It’s about two thirds of the time that the outbreak is at the high school level. Almost all the outbreaks have occurred in schools in primary schools.”
“If you look at the age of death in this situation, it’s under 10. That’s a much, much lower death rate than you’d see in other [AOMR] situations.”

I use several high-end photo processing suites but have always had a difficult time with photos that have color casts, particularly from underwater cameras. To my delight, PhotoPad accurately resolved this otherwise tricky process in one step, and allows me to batch correct to boot. Hi everyone, and welcome to the return of the 3-year-old Threads of Blood reviews, looking to see how well Blood Gain fares in Year 3. This time around I’ve been taking a look at three different editions of Gain to see how each affects play. The first edition was 3rd edition – the modern-day version that came out back in 2014. The second was the 2014 print edition – the last version that continues to be available today. And finally, we have the 2015 print version – the version of the rules that PDF only gamers have access to. As with my popular Blood Gain history posts, I’m going to be dissecting the rulebook in installments and making predictions on what it might look like in Year 4.
Fantasy Flight Games’ Domination and Community Destruction
I want to begin by talking about the rulebook’s history in-game. When Gain was released, the game was the brainchild of Haruhisa Kuroda, who had been working on the game for a few years as an independent developer. When Gain ended up showing up on a good chunk of peoples’ radar in 2014, it’s the rulebook that made that happen. While the publisher hadn’t been involved with its development, they certainly made the first printings of the rulebook. After that, it was expanded and edited to make it even more useful to fans of the game. It was a great boost to the growth of the game, and led to a ton of good things for the players.
While it may have been the first play-tested version of Gain, it wasn’t the first game that people started to find it in. That honor goes to the Gamers League’s Blue Sun Rising. What began as a fairly simple party-building game ended up becoming a tumultuous sandbox in the Community’s eyes. And it’s this sort of growth that led to the creation of the Blood Pack by FFG – a self-contained set of rules that could provide even more life to players going deeper in the game. Being the hottest new game at the time, Blood Pack received a lot more attention than Gain’s rulebook ever did – the same kind of attention that many hobby game companies are only just now reaching for. And the Community did their best to help further the growth of Gain via brewing, splat-paint, and added monster types and other stuff.
