the disney junior original tv series, mickey mouse clubhouse, has been renewed for a third season. season two premiered on september 15, 2012. season two will be the last season of the series and will conclude on december 15, 2012.
the show is very much in-line with the original show, not too overextended with new material, and are more about teaching kids new skills than turning them into fashion models, which was somewhat a disappointment. i was hoping it would be more, but it’s good for the younger crowd. the characters are engaging enough for the target audience. mickey, despite the criticism he smiles too much contrary to his more mischievous persona in the original cartoons, is very benevolent and an ideal character for children to at least relate to. goofy is still funny, and minnie and daisy are interesting without being too vapid. my only disappointment character-wise is donald, i don’t hate him far from it, but i would have liked to seen more of his cantankerous personality that made him so funny yet endearing in the originals.
mickey mouse has a much larger role in the new series, as he gets his own series in his own house. the series is an obvious step in disney’s move to embrace the disney junior brand more. the series carries a youthful tone, with a lot of the disney junior animation style, that differs from the disney animation style. as with many disney junior series, this one features a lot of singing and catchy songs that a lot of kids will relate to. the series introduces a new character, funny, who is a talking house. the series is aimed at toddlers and older kids, so it’s not a very family-friendly show. however, there are enough parental-friendly moments to make it a good choice for preschoolers.
