Once a major part of the FPS genre, the FPS has been relegated over the years to the reality of monsters and silly halloween costumes. Enter Game “Happy Game”, and there is nothing wrong with a fun shooter that uses powerful graphics and good gameplay. The whole concept is quite simple, the objective of each level is fairly obvious from the title, and the gameplay is first person and 3 dimensional. You will become a little man in a world gone awry, to seek out whats lost, to destroy the food, and the thing to do is to shoot it. First person shootouts are not new, but what sets Happy Game apart is that everything is interactive and almost psychedelic. Shooting a bottle of water will explode, shooting an egg will pop out a miniature zombie, and shooting a chicken will unleash a “villain” that has to be killed for the credits.
The game has that classic gunplay that everyone likes from the first person shooters, but has a few twists, most evident is the 3D, your little man will shoot himself at the end of the level to the side of the screen, jumping up and down and he will keep his character, and his weapon.
The gunplay is also puzzle based, and you find yourself on a street with blocks and pipes, you move, shoot and think for a good 10 seconds. The level will sometimes ask you to do something that will normally lead to death and a restart, but if you can complete it, you will unlock the next level.
The enemies range from weapons to everyday items in the game, some attacks will kill you instantly, others will make you jump from the screen, or put you in a puzzle that will lead you to victory. The environment is also fun and creative, each level is different and often at different times in it’s day. There is power plants that will heat up, house that is polluted, train tracks that you can jump and slide on, and garbage dumps where you can jump and have your character burst into a bunch of rats. The game has a pretty good variety of weapons for you to utilize, most of them are self-explained, but in the next level you may find some bizarre weapons that will allow you to do special attacks, you can shoot a car to set off a bomb, you can break the eggs for an invasion, and many other things that you will see during your game.
