How to crop or trim offline (or edit remotely)
If you’re working with a design that’s a bit too big for your monitor, you can still use them, even if you can’t view the whole thing on the screen. If the image is too big, you can trim or crop it to fit the screen size.
To remove areas of your image, you can create a selection first.
To create a selection, click the Select tool, which is in the Select group of tools.
Choose an area to crop your image and click the crop icon. Or you can move the selection to a new area.
To move it, use the arrow keys or click on an area inside the box.

The 1.0 version of Libraries completely revamps the way you manage your various transforms and masks. Its introduction with this release separates out any type of mask from each other in whatever order you place them. The downside is that you can no longer add a shape layer to a mask nor can you apply the “inner mask”. However, doing this in the past is a drag and drop nightmare.
Along with a default flat view of your canvas, this update also introduces a flat image view. If you have used photo or video editing applications in the past, you know their auto-flipping (and reverse) functionality is nothing to scoff at. Photoshop gives you all of these options now, as well as the ability to turn them off. This software also has a tighter zoom and pan control, but no dedicated zoom in or zoom out key. So, if you’re used to using those, don’t panic.
This upgrade also brings the full iOS version of Lightroom Mobile to macOS. It lets you edit images directly in your Photos Library on the go. It’s also able to strip some metadata when exporting to a device like the iPhone, which might be a useful feature if you have deathly fear of keeping that metadata intact.
The Wacom Cintiq Pro USB-based workflow is more widely supported in Photoshop CC. However, it doesn’t go down the route of the Cintiq pen, but it does include a Cintiq-like remote, so you can control Photoshop via a mouse—the second screen setup is still optional.
Adobe has also given the app accessibility in mind by introducing the ability to customize the application’s dictionary. The text boxes are now shrunk down a bit more, and you can now add custom entries. Photoshop is a complex program at its core and it makes extensive use of layers, masks, and transformations. A good understanding of these technologies will be necessary for beginners to master Photoshop.
The most powerful part of Photoshop is its ability to create and change any layer. Until you get to grips with the basics of layers, this feature can undo changes for you. There are two types of layer; the ones with rounded corners that can be resized or viewable on a rectangular toolbar, and the ones with square corners that have a smaller toolbar. The latter are known as “smart layers” because they can be resized but are fixed in size. Smart layers are useful in creating a base canvas for your images which you can mark up later.
Photoshop’s painting tools and tools for selection and adjustments are all laid out in the Layers palette. Any changes made to the paint tool layer are reflected immediately in the layer below. Make adjustments to the adjustment tool layer, and changes made are applied to the image below.
Photoshop’s Live Corners feature dynamically changes the right and left hand tool palettes to the size of the image. For example, when the image is zoomed in, the tool palettes on the left and right of the image will have different options. This helps to make post-processing much easier and to frame the image correctly.
Being a simple Photoshop tool, adding a filter is easy. Click on the blank canvas in the Layers palette and then click the ‘Add Layer’ button or press CTRL+SHIFT+V. Select a filter that’s appropriate to your project, then drag the filter to the Layers palette and paint it along the edges of the canvas. You can apply or subtract the filter to the document. To clean up excess paint, press the Delete button.
