## Making Web Graphics
The full-fledged, feature-packed Adobe Photoshop is an amazing program for professionals, but the CS6 Suite can create gorgeous graphics for the Web, especially for basic work. Figure 2-7 shows the result of a simple web graphic in Photoshop CS6. The four tools shown on the left appear in the Tools panel, which is an easy way to access them.
Unlike many other online tutorials, this tutorial will not use images from this book. The images here are used only for illustrative purposes. In the final example shown in Figure 2-7, you’ll see how to create this graphic from scratch in Photoshop CS6 and then upload it to a server, and the final result is shown in Figure 2-8.
To see some of Photoshop’s other hidden tools and commands, such as how to add text to a background layer, how to edit color, and how to use layer masks, refer to the section “Making a Layer Mask” in Chapter 1.

1. Before you edit photos, set up your Photoshop Elements studio
First, you must set up Photoshop Elements. To do this, you need a camera, a computer, and a printer. This is how you take a picture:
1. Use the computer.
2. Open the software you want to use for editing. Photoshop Elements and Photoshop are popular.
3. Select from the software menu.
4. Open the images you want to edit.
5. Click OK. This action opens the window.
6. Close the window.
Import photos
New or saved photos. (MIME: jpg, pdf, png, tif, tiff, jpeg, gif, jpg)
Photo album.
Once you open the image and adjust it, you can save it. When you export, the high-quality setting is used. The quality of an image determines its size. If you’re saving a picture that is very big, it will be huge.
After you save an image, you can save it as an image, a PDF file, a PostScript file, or a TIFF file. You can then use the image later by opening the file you saved or by transferring it to a digital device.
JPG images. You can resize and print the image (up to 8.5×11 inches, A4).
PDF images. You can resize and print the image (up to 8.5×11 inches, A4).
Plane. You can adjust the width and height of the photo and the image must be at least 1.9×1.9 inches (4×4 cm) to appear on the plane. You can’t change the zoom nor crop the image.
Canvas. You can crop and resize the image.
Open
Images. You can open the image in Photoshop Elements, edit it and create a new one from the original.
For most of the images you can open in Photoshop Elements, they will open in the right pane. When you open the image, you will see three options:

It is a good idea to learn how to work with all Photoshop tools so that you can select the one you are most comfortable with and combine it with the tools you use most often.
