the preferences window lets you customize program behavior, such as scrolling forward or backward, the use of the mouse wheel, and how the image thumbnails are displayed. there is an option to open and save videos, a whiteboard that lets you draw on-screen while you edit, and a movie-loop mode.

corel’s video editor remains unique in providing timeline and split-track modes. this dual view mode lets you quickly scroll to the location of the clip you want to edit by using the mouse, an option that premiere elements doesn’t provide. this is especially helpful if you want to use the timeline as a reference while you edit a clip.

the effects window lets you apply effects to the current media or media on the timeline. effects include additions, reversals, fades, and white-balancing, among others. effects can be applied to the entire timeline or an individual segment. you can play a movie without effects, but once you’ve applied effects, they’re applied to every clip in the movie. this means if you apply a color correction to a clip, it will get applied to every clip in the movie.

in the transitions window, you can add titles or transitions and animate them between clips. as in the other editing components, you can also add color, effects, and audio. you can add transitions to individual clips or groups of clips. you can’t use a transition to create a new segment.

though the video editor includes numerous transition effects, you can’t go to a transition and customize the speed. you can control the speed on the transitions but you can’t choose the type of transition. there is, however, an option to play the movie in slow-motion mode.

when you add a simple music video with a few effects, a theme, and a preset audio file you can create a masterpiece in under 10 minutes. a convenient feature lets you preview the video using thumbnail. if you want to add a voiceover, use the smart text feature to create your own spoken introduction.
within videostudio, it is easy to view and edit your movie. the edit tab has basic tools and other options. tap to see the options at the top of the timeline. press the ‘z’ key to zoom in and out or press ctrl + or cmd + to fit the window to a specific size. if needed, you can create a new video track by selecting the files you want to export. if your video contains audio, a blue noise cursor will appear on a frame where it will not disrupt the audio. tap the frame to stop audio. the audio for the next selected frame will become available.
the application also includes support for the latest apple devices, such as the iphone 7, 7 plus, 8, and 8 plus. a license for older devices is included, too. like most video editors, videostudio needs plenty of ram (random access memory) to run efficiently. the built-in effects collection uses up 1.5gb (with plug-ins disabled), as does the video-effects storage format (fzv), when you edit mp4 or wmv files. if you’re running videostudio on a workstation, you need more ram than you might have on an all-in-one tablet or smartphone. you can purchase ram and options separately from apple.
videostudio includes a robust video editor, making it a bit more complex than some editors, such as final cut pro and adobe premiere elements, where you’re mostly limited to trimming and layering. the single-channel editing window won’t let you add scenes or layers, but it’s still a very powerful tool if you need to delete or annotate frames.
