What is AutoCAD?

AutoCAD is a powerful, yet easy-to-use, desktop CAD software, best suited for the creation, modification, and publication of 2D and 3D data. It is a comprehensive, enterprise-level, solution with a variety of tools. History of AutoCAD

The first AutoCAD product was released in December 1982 as AutoCAD for the Apple II, and the first customer-supported version was released in June 1983. AutoCAD was originally a licensed product, available only on the Apple II. In 1987, AutoCAD for the Macintosh was released, followed by AutoCAD for the Microsoft Windows operating system in 1991. In 1993, the Desktop Director product was released, which allowed AutoCAD users to be interconnected within a corporate network, and it offered graphical and interactive software applications.

In 2000, Autodesk released AutoCAD 2000, which included a set of new, integrated and streamlined tools for creation, modification, publication, and distribution of 2D and 3D data. In 2003, AutoCAD 2004 was released, with a new user interface, new shape tools, and a more powerful grid tool. AutoCAD 2008, known as the most powerful release of AutoCAD, included a huge improvement in user interface, as well as an even more powerful modeling tool set. AutoCAD 2010, released in 2010, added a set of new 2D and 3D drawing tools, including surface and color tools. In 2013, AutoCAD 2013, known for its ease of use, was released, and it included new collaboration tools.

The current version of AutoCAD is AutoCAD 2019.
