Although conventional risk factors have been associated with coronary artery disease (CAD), the role of coronary artery anomalies (CAAs) has been debated. The objective of this study was to analyze the correlation between CAAs and conventional risk factors and determine the clinical impact of CAAs in a pediatric population. We performed a retrospective, observational, cross-sectional study in which the main variables were CAAs and conventional risk factors. Patients were divided into 2 groups according to CAA presence: with and without CAAs. A total of 350 pediatric patients were included in the study. Of those, 242 had CAAs (69.1%), and 98 did not (30.9%). CAAs had a significant association with male sex (P =.005). CAAs were associated with higher waist circumference (P =.008), smoking (P =.006), and family history of CAD (P =.001), whereas high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P =.001) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (P =.042) levels were lower in patients with CAAs. Patients with CAAs had higher triglycerides (P =.003), lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (P =.013), and higher high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (P =.006).
