History

Two individuals, Chuck Berkey, a senior vice president at the company, and Bill Guerin, a Technical Director at the company, developed AutoCAD. Bill Guerin was responsible for the application’s menu structure and its first GUI.

The very first AutoCADnerd program was version 1.0. The early programs could be run on microcomputers with an internal graphics controller. They were composed of a command language, a number of Graphics Window toolkit utilities, and a data file format (dxf).

Configuration and installation

Autocad packages can be exported to Autocad Portable. This can be used on USB or CD.

Autocad Portable uses a new package format called Autocad Package in a Portable Format (APPF). The APPF file contains all the files related to Autocad setup, and is a compressed ZIP file.
