that was an easy problem to solve. i connected the fast flash to the first 32kb of ram, the slow flash to the last 32kb, and the ram to the ram. the ram is a standard 2kb fast flash, so that ram will have the slow version of flash, hence the problem is solved.

the basic idea is simple, on normal input, the vga signal is connected to the inverting buffer, and it can be switched to the non-inverting buffer with that 11-bit value. so a simple xor gate with a diode coupled latch. on a button-press we are looking at the low-order (or most significant) bit, and if it is 0 we enable that bit of the latch for the output, so that all the bits can be seen on the one byte output bus.

and the 128k specifications page (not complete, but enough to get the idea.. the 128k has a pin called low or line, if the chip is set in 16-bit mode. this triggers a code indicating that 4-bits are to be shifted left (to the top bit) on all lines, the same for higher modes. so basically the chip is putting a bit pattern indicating the mode on the pins, on the edge, and can be read with a gate (or counter) to select the mode and latch the bit pattern. if the ram is in 16/14 mode and only the top bit and lower 7 bit is used, then the pin is called bit7 (or low7).

the 128k cpu has a program counter (0..63) and an accumulator (0.127) (line 15 and 17), and they change with the z80, this is easy because they can be read as read the z80 status register bits. to reduce the number of registers we would use, we could use a sub-register (line 16) or a bitwise add (line 17) that is read and store in a sub-register, and then do the next cycle in the accumulator, instead of having two programs counter registers.

The idea behind this project was to create a Spectrum 48k emulator for it, but not only a Spectrum 48k emulator, but all those other models too, for such a project to make sense, we would need to support a maximum of 5 different Spectrum models, which is what this project is trying to do. Romsarchive: A collection of roms, though they are meant for a 48k, you can use them in a spectrum 48k emulator, as well. The roms are in this case in ZX Spectrum format, but if you have some other roms, and you want it to be compatible with this one you can convert them into ZX Spectrum format, though I have no experience in it. Some roms in this collection are password protected, though it’s not difficult to find the password.]
