Splat is a program launcher, which enables you to launch programs and services, on your desktop, with a few simple keystrokes.
In order to get started, you first need to create a profile, using the New Profile option, so that you are able to assign hotkeys to them. This might seem like a rather simple task, but you will quickly come to realize that there is more to it than meets the eye.
The hotkeys you will need to press, to launch specific tasks, need to be assigned to the profile you intend to use. Then, you need to create the new tasks that need to be executed. After that, you can select the correct action, in the specific menu, which you can launch through a keystroke, such as ‘Alt + F2’.
The options available while creating your profiles, which we will come to in a moment, can be used to save time while working with Splat. After you create your profile, you will need to add a name to it. This name will be used whenever you want to start or stop a specific task. You can define a hotkey for a specific profile, from the ‘Edit Hotkey’ option.
You can even choose to enable a delay, from the moment you launch the profile to a certain time.
Another very useful feature Splat offers, when it comes to adding tasks, is the selection of the ‘Working Directory’, as well as the ‘Arguments’.
You can store the working directory in the application profile, which can be used in all the tasks that are executed. You can assign this working directory, using the ‘Working Directory’ option, so that you don’t need to type the path again.
The arguments, on the other hand, can be used to supply the file or url paths, after which you can start the task. You can use the ‘Arguments’ option to create multiple arguments, instead of one, or by selecting a specific file or url.
The ‘Select Action’ feature lets you choose from a menu, ‘Run (If Not Running)’, ‘Close Application’, ‘Kill Application’, ‘Start Service’ or ‘Wait / Delay’.
