i came across a bottle of wine, and it was awesome! no issues getting it open, and i could taste all the flavors as i went down the line. i checked it, and it was bottled 6th april, 2013. heres a link, i put in the serial number and it came back with the exact same results. then i went back to presto and put in the four digit code, and it came back with “no results” – ha! i guess its only online and not in stock at the store. heres the link:

after looking over that page you linked to, that does show the california and new york dates, and the info you have provided for the bottle, it sounds to me like it was part of a listerine bottle produced in the 70s. these parts also match all of the dates of other listerine bottles i have looked up on the internet, like i posted in the first email you sent me.

that said, they have made changes to the wording on their bottles and containers over the years. you could try calling 800-343-9322 and they may be able to take a look at that bottle and determine the exact year of production and serial number.

if you would like to know more about where those parts came from, you could also call owens-illinois and ask for their background papers or some other information that they might have about their bottles. we could see if they have any listerine production records.

alicia, thanks for the response. as i said in my initial email, i wasn’t sure what your knowledge was, so i didn’t want to assume that you would necessarily know what other types of numbers and letters appeared on liquor bottles. thank you for elaborating on this and for informing me that the periods may not always denote a year on a bottle. when i re-read your email i thought you were saying that i believed there were only two years (1960 and 1970), so i wrote that i believe they were on 1960 bottles and i was wrong. my apologies for misinterpreting what you were saying! thank you for the website reference! i may try that and call owens-illinois to see if they have any other documents i can see.
i now believe that the first number in the serial number is the one you write above, but i still cannot find anything online confirming this. i have tried looking up serial number 66410f and it brings up no results, but maybe this one will. if it works i may try and figure out what the number represents. i did call owens-illinois and they do have records on these bottles, but i cannot access them.
as for the second number, this one is at the bottom of the bottle: – – – 7/7/07. if you look up 7/7/07 on the web, you find that this date can signify anywhere from the 7th to the 7th month in the year 1907. it can be referred to as july, july 7th, 7/7/07, july/7/07 etc. in other words, its ambiguous. another possibility is that this was a code to signify the year a bottle was produced. this example on the listerine site has a number 4, which i am assuming indicates the 4th month, but i could be wrong. the problem with this (aside from the part number being very different from what i have) is that on their bottle they used a 4, not a 7. i was looking to find a bottle with that number on it. this list of serial numbers for listerine bottles have no 4s.
