so then i remembered seeing a comment at xda on how to force a device into download mode. no one seemed to know how it worked but i figured there was a good chance someone would by simply trying to give it a shot. so i went to the xda thread and looked at the device list and sure enough there was an i9100xxkg1 listed. i clicked on the link and sure enough the download was posted there as well. so i went back to my sgs2 and downloaded the zip from the xda thread and went back to the download mode screen. and this time it worked and i was able to get into download mode. still, i wasnt able to get into the downloaded update but atleast i was able to get into clockworkmod.
at this point i knew i had to do an ota update to get android 2.3.4 and hence i went to the asus website and looked at the instructions. what i found there was that the download was for the only model of galaxy s 2 (gt-i9100) and that it was not for the galaxy s 2 (gt-i9100 xxlg). so you can see the problem, right! well, i figured i could just flash the zip on to the sgs2 and if it worked i would be in android 2.4 land. so i downloaded the zip, did a full unzip of the zip and followed the onscreen instructions, which involved going to the download mode screen again. at the download mode screen i pressed the button to start the download and next thing i knew, my tablet was stuck at the clockworkmod recovery screen again. so i just rebooted and tried to download the zip again. and this time it worked. the next thing i knew i was in android 2.4.
you can now enjoy all your phones functionality with the cf-root-xxx-vx.x rom. only thing you need to do is flash odin, make sure you flash the xxlpq.tar file, and make sure theres no-checkbox in the file before flashing. follow the same instructions as before, except for
odin is the same process. you only need to grab your xxlpq.tar file, then flash it from the main menu. on windows:
select pda, then select cf-root-xxx-vx.x.tar. unlike on ios or the windows phone, there’s no need to use the specific button, in fact using the specific button will flash the wrong file. just unzip the cf-root-xxx-vx.zip and flash from the main menu of odin. mac osx users can use the same trick, just download the file, then in the odin main menu, select the pda button and click the.tar file you downloaded.
linux:
select pda, then select cf-root-xxx-vx. if youre using ubuntu, you will need to use the “gksudo” command. after you start odin, you can go ahead and continue to follow the instructions above. if not, select the window close button from the main menu. you can then continue to follow the instructions above as normal.

odin is the software you need to install this firmware, bulpc. download it and extract it. if you dont have odin, you can download it here. get more help from this page which installation guide of another firmware, similar to yours, and has one file to be flashed using odin. use that guide as help, but flash the.tar file you get from downloaded file. if i were to write a guide for bulpc, i would be changing the filename only from the xxlpq guide. simple!
once youre done with the main part of the firmware, you might want to install the apps. for this, download the corresponding apk files for the apps you want to install. install them on the phone through the usual method.
install galaxy s2 2.3.4 jelly bean firmware in galaxy s2 via odin. download the apk files of the apps you want to install. odin might require you to install the drivers first. if you cant find your phone here, its almost sure that you need to install them first. i suggest you use the samsung s2 drivers found here on the forum. if you get problems, download the 2.4 firmware here. install it using odin.
