“I think the most useful thing about internet dating is the exposure to a lot more people. And the best thing about it is that it really puts to use the ability to share your own experiences. It’s made me more aware of my own flawed judgement, and shows me that people are not all the same, and are different in different ways. I feel better being able to see how other people are and to be able to pick up on that with them.
“The biggest thing I have learned is that people are imperfect—and that imperfection makes them who they are. Dating is about connection, and none of us are perfect. So when you really get down to it, there’s something about rejection that’s, I don’t know—tougher?—than acceptance?”

“I started online dating in early 2007, and for the most part it’s been a joke. I probably talked to 3,000 people in my last year, and I went out with about 800-900 of them. I’m very objective about my own responses—even if it’s a date that goes bad, the first five seconds were just the worst. After that, I have to go see if it’s even worth my time.
“The other thing I learned is to have less expectations. No one is going to be perfect; no one is going to be great. So don’t think about the relationship too much—just go out, meet more people, and learn more about yourself and your interests and what you like. Of course there’s a lot of luck involved in the process, but in the long run, that’s about all it is.”

Bumble is the number one dating app among single women ages 22 to 34, according to the company’s own data. Founded in 2004, OkCupid claims to be the “world’s largest and best dating site.” It’s also a website that prides itself on science.
OkCupid’s free membership is pretty basic, but you can upgrade to Premium and get everything you’d get from a paid membership, plus you get to see who’s viewed your profile and how many people haven’t messaged you yet. OkCupid’s matching algorithm is based on the same standards as other mainstream dating sites. The difference is that the company also considers factors that may influence compatibility, such as volunteer work and certain hobbies.
Because OkCupid is based on the science of attraction, you can use some advanced features. Users can download an app for iPhone or Android that allows you to sign in via Facebook, create a profile that appears on other sites, and then send text messages directly from your phone.
