Iris Shotz is a side-scroller puzzle game with a retro aesthetic. A young astronaut is the sole survivor after his ship has crash-landed on a stray rogue planet. His only hope of getting off the desolate world is to venture beneath the frozen surface and unravel its secrets. Unfortunately, as you’d expect, he’s not alone.

Gameplay

Iris Shotz is a series of platforming stages in an icy world made up of a series of puzzles. Press the screen to jump and attack enemies and steer your ship using the triangle button. Hit a block and it will change color. When a block is fully green, it becomes a platform.

As you progress through the game you will discover new weapons and upgrades to help you gain the upper hand on your enemies. Iris Shotz has eight weapons and 16 upgrades. The colors of the blocks can be combined into a variety of particle effects that determine how much damage the weapons do.

Death is permanent. The first time you die, you lose all the upgrades. The second time is more of a penalty because you will respawn back to the start of the zone where you had died.

The control scheme is optimized for the touch screen on phones and tablets. But since you can’t double-tap to jump, you must have the tip of your finger on the block in front of you in order to jump. You must press the block to jump, tap anywhere else to turn, and then jump again.

There are two types of collectible items: blue coins and ice tiles. Blue coins are needed to upgrade your weapons, while ice tiles are needed to power up a special attack
