jvc lsi was an american manufacturer of the first commercial pitch correction products. gibson and jvc lsi formed a partnership that brought out the first commercial pitch correction product called the sc-55. in 1979, gibson pitched to the japanese company, sony, to mass produce the pitch correction products. the product was named the cvc-40 pitch correction unit. this was the first time a pitch correction device was marketed for commercial use.
the cvc-40 had a great cost advantage over existing high priced state of the art pitch correction units due to its smaller size and lower price. it was only in the late 1980s that pitch correction became popular in music and hollywood.
