SimCity became a huge hit in 2009, and the top-selling PC game of 2010. Many are already familiar with the basic gameplay of SimCity — build your roads and homes, build businesses, and do charitable things to the tune of popularity points. SimCity not only includes standard of city planning but economy building, as well. All of that, however, is effectively rendered useless if there is insufficient Internet data, or if your computer simply can’t handle the game. This is a bit of a problem for the already limited PC audience, and EA is essentially making a move to prevent people from actually playing the game.

If you pause playing the game initially, and choose to resume, a message will ask you for Google and Simcity’s permission before resuming. Once granted, the game will resume. If the company can’t “sign in” to your games, or if there’s a technical glitch, the game just sits there.

The worst part of it all is that there’s no way to cancel the check for the Google Play Store, so you can’t even press “never ask again.” The SmartGaGa team already figured out a way to get around that, but they don’t want to tell you how.

You won’t be able to play the game, but now you have an alt-text file you can use to simulate the game. You’ll notice it in the “saved games” folder of your devices app. When you’re ready to play, all you’ll need to do is move the file and start the game if it says you’re missing one.
