once you have created the design on your computer, you should see the design you have just created with the stitch count and mapping format under the tagged image file format (tiff) extension. the stitch count is displayed under the designer name. mapping format is displayed under the embroidery format. mapping format is important for the v8. it is an optional function, provided in v8. it determines the way the design is transferred to the fabric: via the stitches per inch or via curves.

when you are finished with your design, you can save it on your computer, for further processing. in v8 the main designer is the bernina embroidery software itself. you can find the design in the main window by clicking on the designs icon, and then you can select the design file.

after using my embroidery machine for about 20 years i decided to go back to where i started and learn how to use the software. but i was surprised to see that it took more time than i anticipated to get it working. there is a steep learning curve and i have been doing everything by trial and error. i have tried not to damage my machine as i was learning so i am still learning. all this said i have not found a better embroidery software for my machine.

i was in the process of making a vest for my little girl. i cut a shirt for the front and back. i used cotton thread which is a nice weight. i decided to add a little black and silver flower in the corner of the vest and a pink flower on the other corner. the vest was pretty simple to design. i designed one side with the flower and then the other side without. i did about 10 stitches per inch. i went into the software and it was listed that it would take about 45 minutes to embroider the vest. it was a little faster than i thought it would be, probably because i was taking my time and not pressing the button.
