AutoCAD is widely used in professional architectural and engineering fields. It has a large installed base of more than 11.7 million users worldwide, according to a 2016 Autodesk survey. The software was originally developed as part of the Autodesk Plantum software suite, which was released in 1980. It was known as Autocad and the internal unit number for the software package was UDCA000. The first version of AutoCAD was released in 1982.

In December of 1973 the Alvin Hauptmann Company (plaintiff) was in the process of planning and erecting a building in Atlanta, Georgia, when it retained the appellant, Rowley, as a general contractor. The contract, made on a “cost plus” basis, provided that appellant was to furnish and erect a certain number of steel window frames on the construction job, and specified their size, type, and quantity. Included in the work was the “extra-mural” window frame which was to be placed in the building’s front entrance. The building was constructed to the satisfaction of the owner and no further complaints of defects were made until after the building was completed and opened to business. Subsequently, the plaintiff filed suit against appellant for alleged breach of contract. A trial was had, and the jury returned a verdict in favor of plaintiff and against appellant for $3,000, the amount it sought. Defendant Rowley appeals. Held:
